SABI

SABI is a Rotterdam-based community platform that shines a light on grassroots movements and developments in the city, built for and by Rotterdammers with African, Caribbean, and indigenous roots. As a collective of culture makers, policy makers, and city builders, SABI needed an identity that felt both grounded and forward-facing. The name says everything. Sabi is a Sranan Tongo word meaning "to know" or "to understand" and that became the creative compass for the entire identity. Starting from the concept of knowledge, the process led to a definition that felt exactly right: knowledge is the fraction of our beliefs that meet evidence. Two overlapping fields, what we believe, and what can be proven, and in the space where they intersect, something becomes known. That intersection is the logo. The colour palette and typography were built to hold that same tension: rooted and rigorous, but open and human. An identity that could carry many voices without losing its own.
